The Girl from the Bookstore

This is our first introduction to Audrey’s character Jo, working as an assistant in a Greenwich village bookstore. Audrey wears an oatmeal button up tabard over a fine black woollen turtleneck, with a maroon skirt which hits just below the knee:

Jo’s oversized, neutral clothing is a contrast to her later transformation into a “beauty” (and a contrast to the model Marion, who models a yellow gown in the bookstore, much to Jo’s intense disapproval).

Does anyone else feel a song coming on?

On Audrey this hat suddenly looks like what it is- ridiculously over the top.

Jo, sporting a black headscarf, is lured into Quality magazine’s premises on the pretext of delivering a book order to become their next model.

“My what big scissors you have!”

Kay Harker is wearing yet another suit with a sailor collar! Love her stand up shirt collar and cuffs….

Thank you for this post! Gosh I’ve been dying to get my hands on a tabard like Jo’s ever since I first watched this movie! Still hoping I find one one day!
