A delicate constitution…

January 28, 2011

No one understood the pressure of being an ‘It’ girl-about-town, sighed Elsie.

No one understood that it was practically obligatory to stay out till 5am dancing on the tables at the Pink Flamingo. The demands it placed on her delicate constitution could only be mitigated by sleeping till two in the afternoon, and of course no one understood that either.

Lunch was a horrid shock to the system, so it was best skipped for a pink gin. And then she might, just might, feel up to holding court to a few favoured admirers and hangers-on in her boudoir. Then it would be cocktail time, and there’d only be a couple of hours to dress for dinner at Maxims, and then the whole tedious merry-go-round of pleasure would begin all over again…
