Happy New Year!
Did everyone have a good Christmas and New Year? Did anyone manage to avoid the festive ‘flu? And did Santa bring you everything you wanted? I hope so. I’m back from a couple of hideous weeks of ‘flu and a couple of lovely weeks away, of real log fires and family and frosty winter walks.
The presenter on the radio this afternoon has been ranting about new year resolutions. “This year the last thing you want is resolutions, what with the recession and struggling to pay the bills and worrying about whether you’re going to be redundant in a week’s time”. But I LOVE new year resolutions, the reminder that a shiny new year brings that we should have things to aspire to rather than just disasters to avoid. I love the clean slate that the toppling of the old year brings and personally I want to throw my arms around 2009 and give it a great big squeeze. (Bills and redundancy etc are obviously serious concerns, but the media seem to be rapidly creating a kind of ‘worry culture’, and I’m positive they’ve helped to create the current economic recession by frightening us into hoarding our surplus cash under the floorboards. But I digress.)
So this year, I’ll be sewing more, knitting more (if that’s even possible), aspiring to be more, do more and live more, hopefully blogging a lot more and reading more, starting with this trove of Christmas present books. Now that’s a resolution that’ll be easy to keep.
